Our Fleet
Our sailing fleet currently consists of 16 Vanguard Prams, 4 Capri 14.2s and a Hobie Cat Getaway. Each is described below. Our support boats include a Carolina skiff, and 2 hard-bottomed inflatables.
The Pram
The International Optimist Dinghy has become the world standard (150,000 boats in 85 countries) for learn-to-sail programs. Designed for sailors weighing 50-120 lbs., Optimist sailors quickly learn the essential steering and sail-trimming skills necessary to continue in the sport of sailing. Its flat, stable hull provides an unintimidating introduction to sailing; and, as young sailors progress, they can graduate to the Optimist racing circuit or tranfer their skills to any type of small boat.
The Vanguard Pram was designed to perform much like an Optimist. It is an affordable option for sailing programs looking for durable "learn-to-sail" boats with all of the inherent advantages of the Optimist. In sailing mode, the Pram features a molded-in mast step and a simple rig and blade package. The stable hull shape and bulletproof, unsinkable construction make the Pram a fantastic choice for new sailors. The Pram is also fitted out for rowing and perfoms remarkably well as a row boat.
The Capri 14.2
The Catalina Capri 14.2 provids a good combination of day sailing comfort and sailing performance for the active sailing family or couple. Stability and easy handling make the 14.2 an ideal boat to learn in, while the experienced skipper will enjoy it's lively response. It has an easily retracted centerboard and kick-up rudder for beaching or storage on a float. The 14.2 is built of hand-laminated fiberglass with molded-in nonskid, anodized aluminum spars, stainless steel rigging and quality hardware.
The Hobie Cat Getaway
The Hobie Getaway is the "social boat" of Hobie Cat's catamaran line. It has huge carrying capacity, comfortably accommodating six adults. The whole family can go out for a comfortable evening cruise. The Getaway is designed to withstand rigorous use and provide years of sailing enjoyment for the all ages, and boasts serious performance in a very playful, manageable boat.
