Beginner and Advanced Beginner Opti
Four days a week students will receive instruction in the principles and skills of sailing in Vanguard Prams (Optis) from 9:00 to 12:00p.m. Students will learn to row, sail, tie knots, apply the rules of the road, and do some basic chart reading. The fifth day will be devoted to marine biology and shore-side ecology (Belly Biology) taught by staff from The Briarwood Marine Science Center. Class size will be limited to 24 students per session. The program is open to children who are full time residents of Bourne and who will be entering grades 4-6 this fall.
Due to the generosity of many donors, BCB is able to offer this program tuition-free to qualified, 1st year students. BCB estimates the costs for this program to be $600/student. BCB would appreciate donations up to this amount if you are able to afford it.
In the event of a class being under-subscribed BCB will open it to children of seasonal residents on April 4th. Non-resident tuition is $600.00.
Lifejackets will be provided for this class due to the generosity of West Marine in Falmouth.

Intermediate Opti
This program will build on the beginner foundation skills in all areas: rowing and boat handling, sailing skills, navigation, and rules of the road. It will also introduce basic racing, and provide some experience in other types of sailboats. All instruction will be with one student per boat. Sailing instruction will be 4 days a week and advanced Belly Biology (including an independent research project) one day per week. Students must supply their own life jacket. This class will be offered from 1:00 to 4:00p.m., and will be limited to 15 students per session. It is open to full-time residents of Bourne and will require tuition of $500/student.
BCB has scholarship funds available for children for which this tuition would be a verifiable burden. Please see the scholarship application form for scholarship information.
In the event of enrollment being less than capacity BCB will open the program to children of seasonal residents that can demonstrate sufficient single-handed basic sailing skills on April 4th. Non-resident tuition is $600.00.

Adult Instruction
This summer, BCB will introduce adult instruction in Capri 14's. Classes will include shore school and on-the-water instruction Wednesdays from 6-8 PM and Saturdays from 9-12 AM. It will run for 4 weeks during each of the 2 sessions. Each session is limited to 9 students. Minimum age is 16.
Students must supply their own life jackets and pass a swimming test. All needed instructional materials will be supplied. Tuition for this class will be $300.00. Again, BCB will provide scholarships for those for whom the tuition is a verifiable burden.
This class is open to full-time residents of Bourne. In the event enrollment is less than capacity, the program will open to seasonal residents on April 4th. Non-resident tuition is $400.00.

Individual Adult Instruction
Private adult instruction (one adult per instructor) will be available this summer for a fee of $50/hr. See Jen Kano during the summer sessions to arrange instruction.
Open Sailing
Weather permitting, on Thursday evenings from 5-8 PM and on Saturday afternoons from 1-5 PM, BCB will offer open sailing to qualified members. Qualification means passing a test of sailing and rigging skills in either Optis or Capris. Members may take out a boat they have been qualified for during Open Sailing Hours. Members must abide by the rules agreed to at the time of their qualifying test. Members may take out guests. All participants must wear life jackets. Boats will be available on a first-come/first-served basis. This program is open only to full-time and seasonal residents of Bourne. The fee and specific details for this program have yet to be determined. Members must also sign appropriate waivers at the time of the qualification test. Each sailor will be expected to pass a swim test (tread water for 2 minutes without lifejacket, swim 50 yards with lifejacket).
Parents will be encouraged to volunteer and to assist with parts of the program.
It is important for students and parents/guardians to understand that a student carries an obligation to attend all classes (unless illness or other excusable event occurs), as there will be others who would like to attend, but who have not been chosen.
