Students will learn to row, sail, tie knots, apply the rules of the road, and do some basic chart reading. Our goal is to have each child sailing independently. The fifth day will be devoted to marine biology and shore-side ecology (Belly Biology). The program is open to children who are full-time or seasonal residents of Bourne and will be entering grades 4-6 this fall. Registration in the Beginner's class is limited to two students per family. Tuition for this class is $500 per student.

First year intermediates will have sailing instruction 4 days a week with advanced Belly Biology one day per week. Returning intermediates may repeat the biology program or sail 5 days per week. Students should expect to spend from one to three years in this class before graduating to Adventures in Sailing. Registration Instructions

Junior Instructor Program To qualify for this program the student must have excellent pram and sloop sailing skills, a strong desire to continue to expand his/her sailing skills and experience, and must enjoy working with young children. Students will be expected to assist in teaching 3-4 class sessions per week, attend a weekly class in which they will learn how to teach sailing effectively; and sail independently during open sailing or join in with the Adventurers 1-3 times per week. (Total time commitment = 5 sessions per week minimum.) There is no tuition for this program, but the participant must be a member of BCB.

Registration Instructions

Parents will be encouraged to volunteer and to assist with parts of the program.

It is important for students and parents/guardians to understand that a student carries an obligation to attend all classes (unless illness or other excusable event occurs), as there will be others who would like to attend, but who have not been chosen. No classes will be held on July 4th.

Adaptive Sailing – Saturday or Sunday morning, 9:00am -12:00noon; clinics to be announced
BCB, in partnership with CapeAble Adventures, offers Bourne to Sail program for sailors with disabilities. These clinics will be offered to allow people to come for a trial sail with an experienced partner. In addition, adaptive sailing will be offered Saturday or Sunday morning 9-12. Depending on disability, sailing will be offered in two Access Dinghies and Capri 14s. The extent of offerings will depend on available facilities, suitable boats, and the availability of experienced caregivers. Please volunteer your skills. For further information, please contact us.

Individual Adult Instruction
Private adult instruction (one adult per instructor) will be available this summer for a fee of $50/hr in addition to an annual membership with BCB. Membership in BCB is $50 per individual or $75 for the family. Contact Kristina Woods (508-273-6152) during the summer sessions to arrange instruction. Students must supply their own life jackets and pass a swimming test. All needed instructional materials will be supplied.
